  1. Q: When was CCS founded?
    A: CCS opened its doors to the public in 1974 with approximately 55 students in grades K through 4. 

  2. Q: What grades does CCS have?
    A: With 3-year-old pre-school through the twelfth grade, CCS provides a quality, college preparatory program.

  3. Q: Is the school associated with a church? 
    A: Yes, CCS is a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church (Independent Baptist) located in Latonia, Kentucky. The school teaches Baptist doctrine in all of its Bible classes.

  4. Q: Where is the school located?
    A: CCS is located approximately 3.5 miles south of I-275 on Taylor Mill Road at 5955 Taylor Mill Road, Covington, KY 41015 (859) 356-9201.

  5. Q: Are the facilities adequate?
    A: CCS is beautifully situated on 60+ acres with air conditioned classrooms. There are 2 computer labs, 2 STEM labs, a full size gymnasium (capacity 1,000) with a theatrical stage & lighting, and a full size kitchen and large cafeteria with prepared hot lunches.

  6. Q: Does CCS have a Mission Statement of purpose?
    A: Yes. Our mission is "Equipping the Next Generation to Impact the World for Christ." In essence, the role of Calvary Christian School is to assist Christian parents in the training of their children in the doctrines, principles and applications of God's Word.

  7. Q: Is CCS accredited? 
    A: Yes. The school is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) (the largest of its kind in the world) and the Non-Public Commission of the Kentucky Department of Education readily recognizes ACSI accreditation; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and AdvanceED. CCS does not accept any federal or state funding whatsoever.


  8. Q: What is the average number of years current CCS teachers have been at CCS?
    A: 10 Years

  9. Q: What are the requirements to be a teacher at CCS?
    A: Teachers must have a degree from a recognized college in their area of teaching interest. Elementary faculty are required to possess an Elementary Education degree. They must be ACSI certified or be willing to obtain certification with ACSI. All teachers are born again Christians and many are members of Calvary Baptist Church.

  10.  Q: What colleges do CCS teachers graduate from?
    A:  A variety of colleges are represented. Several Christian (Cedarville, Liberty, etc.) and public colleges (U.C., NKU, Michigan State University, Morehead State University, the Naval Academy, University of Kentucky, etc.) Approximately 43% have Master’s degrees.

  11. Q: What is the make-up of the school board?
    A: The Executive Committee is comprised of seven members, the school Headmaster, and the chairman. They are all members of Calvary Baptist Church. Three of the seven are Calvary Baptist Church deacons. The role of the Executive Committee is to make school policy and insure funding.

  12. Q: What textbooks are used in the classrooms?
    A: Teachers are required to follow approved curriculum guides as approved by the Executive Committee.
    In our elementary classrooms we use:
    -Positive Action Bible
    -BJU Press History, Math, English, Reading (Grade 2-6) and Science (Grades 5 & 6)
    -Open Court Reading in Grades K5-1
    -Purposeful Design Spelling and Science
    -Zaner-Bloser Handwriting

    In Middle and High school classrooms, we use a mixture of Saxon, Positive Action, Apologia, Glencoe, Bob Jones, Vista and Pearson.

  13. Q: How do Calvary’s test scores compare to other schools?
    A: . Our ACT scores are typically 2 to 3 points higher than the Kentucky State average and 1-2 points higher than the national average on the Composite Score.

  14. Q: What percentage of CCS graduates enroll in college?
    A: CCS is very much a college prep institution. We typically see 95% or higher of our graduates either enrolled in college the following fall or entering the military. Recent CCS graduates have attended a variety of colleges and universities, including: Vanderbilt, Purdue, West Point, Cedarville, Liberty, Georgetown College, Northern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and University of Cincinnati among others. A typical CCS graduating class will be awarded in excess of $500,000 in scholarship per year.

  15. Q: What athletic opportunities are offered at CCS?
    A: Calvary Christian School participates as part of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA). Calvary offers a wide range of athletic opportunities at all levels, to include: Soccer (Boys & Girls), Volleyball (Girls), Cross Country (Boys & Girls), Golf (Boys), Archery (Boys & Girls), Basketball (Boys & Girls), Swimming (Boys & Girls), Cheerleading (Girls), Tennis (Boys & Girls), Track and Field (Boys & Girls), Baseball (Boys) and Softball (Girls)

  16. Q: What types of extra-curricular activities are available?
    A:  For Elementary students there are intramural teams for soccer, baseball and softball. There are also Lego Robotics, Archery and Academic Teams for upper elementary. There is also a Cougar Council comprised of 6th Grade leaders. In the Middle and High School we have Lego Robotics, Academic Teams, National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society, BETA Club, Student Ambassadors, Pep Band, and Sounds of Praise Ensemble. There is also a Student Council elected by the Student Body.

  17. Q: Is there a set discipline procedure that is practiced?
    A:  A tally system in grades K-6 and a demerit system in the middle and high school divisions are used consistently by teachers as key tools in maintaining positive and constructive classroom control.
